Who?
Coach Robin
Robin is a swim coach, paddler and scientist, professionally. She teaches the physics of flight with iFLY, and paddling with Kayak Academy. She guides whitewater rivers in the cascades, and bioluminescence in the Salish sea. But she loves coaching more than the rest, combined - it's the wildest, most exhilarating, and most rewarding of them all!
By training, Robin is a geologist (sp. geophysics) and computer scientist with a degree in both subjects from the University of British Columbia. In her 12 years as a professional geologist, she worked in many countries and continents around world, including the western US, Alaska, Canada, Chile and Australia.
Robin has been a swimmer since she was 6, becoming a State champion at 16 in the 100 Breaststroke. She has coached with WAVE for over 6 years. In that time, she has worked with hundreds of swimmers, including many state champs qualifiers and several finalists.
As a coach, Robin believes in a motivation-first approach that keeps practice fun and social, especially as the difficulty increases. And the difficulty ratchets up physically, technically and mentally, in lock-step. She teaches technique with a focus on feedback. Swimmers learn to feel their speed in the water, which reinforces or improves their technique, with every stroke they take. Athletes forge durable friendships, working hard, having fun, swimming fast, and improving rapidly. Because it's not about swimming, it's about swimmers!
