Who?

Coach Robin

Robin is a swim coach, paddler and scientist, professionally.   She teaches the physics of flight with iFLY, and paddling with Kayak Academy.  She guides whitewater rivers in the cascades, and bioluminescence in the Salish sea.   But she loves coaching more than the rest, combined - it's the wildest, most exhilarating, and most rewarding of them all!

Robin earned a degree in geology (sp. geophysics) from the University of British Columbia, and worked as a professional geologist for 12 years.  That took her to many remote sites around the world, including Arizona, Alaska, Canada, Chile and Australia.

Robin has been a swimmer since she was 6, becoming a State champion at 16 in the 100 Breaststroke.  She coached with WAVE for 6 years, working with hundreds of swimmers, including many Champs, Regionals, Zones and All-stars swimmers.

As a coach, Robin believes in a motivation-first approach that keeps practice engaging, especially as the difficulty increases. And the difficulty ratchets up physically, technically and mentally, in lock-step.  She trains technique by developing swimmers' intuition for the water - NOT by telling them what to do.  Water intuition is the X-factor that separates legendary swimmers from the mediocre;  engaged swimmers from the robotic; and driven swimmers from the burned-out.  Athletes forge durable friendships while working hard, swimming fast, and improving rapidly.
